Yes! The extension is completely free for viewers. Translators need to log in to start translation sessions, but viewing translated content is free for everyone.
Which browsers are supported?
Currently, the extension is available for Chrome and Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, etc.). Firefox support may be added in the future.
For Viewers
How do I install the extension?
- Download the extension from the Chrome Web Store
- Click "Add to Chrome"
- Pin the extension to your toolbar for easy access
- Navigate to any YouTube live stream and click the extension icon
How do I know if a stream has live translation?
Click the extension icon while watching any YouTube video. If there's an active translation session, you'll see a "Join Live" button. Click it to start receiving subtitles.
Can I customize the subtitle appearance?
Yes! Click the extension icon and adjust:
- Font size (16-40px)
- Background opacity (0-100%)
- Subtitle position (drag to move)
The subtitles aren't showing. What should I do?
Try these steps:
- Make sure you clicked "Join Live" in the extension popup
- Check that the extension is turned ON (green power button)
- Refresh the YouTube page
- Make sure there's an active translation session
How do I turn off the subtitles?
You have two options:
- Toggle "Show Subtitles" OFF in the extension popup (keeps extension active)
- Click the power button to turn off the entire extension
Technical Questions
Is my data safe?
Yes! We don't collect any personal information. The extension only receives translation text through Firebase and displays it on your screen. See ourPrivacy Policy for details.
Does the extension slow down YouTube?
No. The extension is lightweight and only activates when you're watching YouTube. It uses minimal resources and won't affect video playback performance.
Can I use this on mobile?
Currently, the extension only works on desktop Chrome browsers. Mobile browser extensions have limitations that prevent this functionality from working properly.
What happens when the translator ends the session?
When a translator stops broadcasting, all connected viewers are automatically disconnected. Your extension popup will show "No Live Broadcast" and subtitles will stop appearing.
